This course belongs to the class of complementary courses for the PhD curricula “Life Sciences”. It aims at teaching both English for public speaking and practical methods and helps to develop specific professional skills.
Advanced English (simulation of speaking in public and contemporary use of English in formal and non-formal settings), provides the basics in simulation of public speaking methodologies and professional guidance in answering questions.
The course covers the following topics:
 

1. Fundamentals of public speaking and presentations:
   The aim is to instill confidence into future presenters whether in a professional environment or in a casual setting.
2. Common English phrases:
   Together we will review the most common English words and phrases relative to PhD’s and non.
3. What’s out and what’s in:
   We will review what makes contemporary English contemporary, what is more common today, and what is no longer used.
4. Use of Latin in English:
   How to include Latin in our everyday English and what it can do for the impressions we make on others.
5. How to relay information or refer to third party speech:
   Relaying information, referencing third party speakers, and using the related speech in the correct way.
6. Focus on future and storytelling in Academia. What is Storytelling and how can it help with Scientific presenting?
7. Stating the obvious and presenting solid information.
   How to write and present in a compelling way.
